Mission & Outreach

Food Pantry

The Fairview Presbyterian Church Food Pantry opened in November 2002. The purpose was to design and implement a community outreach program for Fairview Township and the West County area. Our mission is to serve with grace those in need of food supplement. We currently serve about 60 families a month.

The Food Pantry is open the first Saturday of each month, from 10:00am – 12:00pm. When the weekend is on or near a holiday, it is moved to the following Saturday.

We are very thankful for the support we receive from the community. St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Girard, St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairview, St. Stephen’s Episcopal and Holy Cross Catholic Churches in Fairview, Fairview School District, various Girl Scout Troops, our local AA organization, Fairview Community Council, Kiwanis Club of West County, Lions Club, and Erie Moose Lodge 66, have all donated food items, household items, monetary gifts, and their time volunteering. We also receive private donations.

If you or someone you know needs help with food, don’t hesitate to call the church office, 814-474-3914.

Recipients must live in Fairview, Girard, or Lake City.

Community Clothes Closet

What started out as a Fairview High School program offering warm winter clothing in 2009 turned into a permanent place where one in need of clothing can go. In 2022, the Community Clothes Closet was renovated and is now run by the Fairview Presbyterian Church Youth Group.

The Community Clothes Closet is open during Food Pantry distribution Saturdays, from 10:00am to 12:00pm, as well as during church office hours, which are Mondays through Fridays, 10:00am to 4:00pm.

We have clothing for men, women, and children, along with accessories.

If you would like to donate gently used clothing or are in need of clothing, please contact the church office at 814-474-3914.

Belize

Our congregation has a relationship with a school in Belize called Kuxlin Ha, as well as an organization called Pathlight International. Pathlight works to empower children in Belize to receive a quality education, break free from poverty, and reach their God-given potential.

As a church, we sponsor a student, Liani, who is in 11th grade. Our sponsorship each year ensures she has a school uniform, textbooks, school bag, and other necessary supplies. Our support plays an integral part in ensuring that both Liani and her family have the peace of mind and reassurance that Liani can continue her educational journey and work toward her dream of one day being a forensic scientist.

Our next trip to Belize is planned for July 2023. A mission team from our church will travel to Belize and work on construction projects at Kuxlin Ha as well as do community outreach.

Our Neighbor’s Place & Sunday Suppers

Our Neighbor’s Place and Sunday Suppers are both missions of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in downtown Erie. Our Neighbor’s Place welcomes those experiencing homelessness to come in from the cold and enjoy a warm meal and a safe place to sleep for the night. We volunteer at Our Neighbor’s Place every winter, helping to cook and serve dinner and staff the overnight shelter.

Sunday Suppers offers a free meal on Sunday afternoons to anyone who needs one. We also volunteer with Sunday Suppers every year, making and serving a home cooked meal to the guests.

Angel Tree

Each December, our church partners with the Fairview School District to help families with presents for their children for Christmas. We provide gifts for over 50 children each year.

Grady’s Decision

In 2022, we began a partnership with Grady’s Decision, a local non-profit presenting a glimpse of God’s love to families experiencing premature births. They serve as a beacon of hope through prayer, words of encouragement, gifts, and acts of kindness. One such act of kindness is welcome bags of goodies presented to parents who stay in two apartments near Hamot Hospital while their children are in the NICU.

We periodically collect items for those welcome bags. In the summer of 2022, we collected items for 18 welcome bags!

We have also donated new blankets to Grady’s Decision.
